![]() I have lots of respect for somebody that can build something nice. I have lots of respect for someone that can design something that really works. I know I can find a competent drywall guy but finding a competent roofer worries me. I'll have to pay somebody to do the roof because I'll be 70 by the time I get to that and it might just be too much work. Everything, Including building the cabinets and much of the furniture. EVERYTHING because the subs are way to much and/or incompetent. 35 years later, I'm remodeling this one myself. I paid somebody to install the garage doors. I did the hardwood flooring myself, installed all the doors and windows, etc. I paid somebody to dry-wall parts that weren't real wood, and paid somebody to lay the part that was wall-to-wall carpet. I did hire somebody to do the roofing because part of it was 2-story and heights terrify me. In the first I designed it, borrowed a backhoe, graded the land, dug the foundation, built the foundation with some help, payed someone to pour the slab for the garage and the small part that was on a slab, framed it with some help, did all the electrical and all the plumbing, did all the exterior with some help, etc. I don't know that I get offended but I know what I mean when I say I built a house and I'm remodeling this one. I actually taped three of them together instead of uploading separately. In looking at this photo, I kind of like the new, clean look to the garden here (at least compared to what it is now, lol) but it could just be nostalgia kicking in, lol. This garden was actually on my list to be redone this year, including toying with the idea of digging up and moving/redoing the pathway, but time constraints and weather have put this project on hold yet again. Where the rockcress hasn't spread, the weeds (as well as spreaders/reseeders such as foxgloves and toad lilies) have. Around the birdbath you can see some little shrubs - those are dwarf azaleas which were planted way too close, (but whichh are still gorgeous in spring) underplanted with some rockcress which has almostly completely overtaken the pathway, which is probably l why I forgot about it, lol. And the garden itself is incredibly overgrown and neglected, being in a little side yard that no one EVER goes in. This is my very first garden, made about 15 years ago, and while I was happy with the visual results, I didn't do any homework regarding building pathways, and therefore no kind of prep work, and so this pathway is now uneven and sunken in spots. Jayco's photo reminded me that I did indeed try my hand at some stonework. ![]()
